Foundations Join Forces on January 1, 2010

The Norfolk Foundation and The Virginia Beach Foundation finalized their merger on January 1, 2010 and debuted the Hampton Roads Community Foundation. The community foundation is the largest grant and scholarship provider in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia. Harry T. Lester, president of Eastern Virginia Medical School, is chair of the foundation's 12-member board of directors.

Foundation Grants Top $13.7 Million in 2009

It was published in November 2009 by the Hampton Roads Association of Fundraising Professionals, Hampton Roads chapter, Bonney & Company and The Norfolk Foundation (now the Hampton Roads Community Foundation). Heard on the Web: Budget Plan Revives President’s Call for New Charitable-Deduction Limit

According to a February 1 article in The Chronicle on Philanthropy, Suzanne Perry reports that President Obama's budget proposals for fiscal 2011 "would limit to 28 percent the tax break couples earning $250,000 (or individuals earning $200,000) could get for their itemized deductions, including gifts to charity." The IRS Reminds Tax-Exempt Organizations of All Sizes to File the Form 990 on Time to Preserve Their Tax Exempt Status
