Foundations Join Forces on January 1, 2010

The Norfolk Foundation and The Virginia Beach Foundation finalized their merger on January 1, 2010 and debuted the Hampton Roads Community Foundation. The community foundation is the largest grant and scholarship provider in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia. Harry T. Lester, president of Eastern Virginia Medical School, is chair of the foundation's 12-member board of directors.

Foundation Grants Top $13.7 Million in 2009

The Norfolk Foundation and The Virginia Beach Foundation awarded $13.7 million in grants and scholarships in 2009. The two foundations merged on January 1, 2010 to form the Hampton Roads Community Foundation. Click here for a list of 2009 grant recipients.

Charitable Giving Study Focuses on Hampton Roads

Nonprofits in the Hampton Roads region had a challenging year in 2009, according to the eighth annual Dimensions of Philanthropy in Hampton Roads  study. It was published in November 2009 by the Hampton Roads Association of Fundraising Professionals, Hampton Roads chapter, Bonney & Company and The Norfolk Foundation (now the Hampton Roads Community Foundation).
