The Smithsonian Institution in a two-sentence statement has declined accepting the suit worn in court by O.J. Simpson on October 3, 1995, the day he was acquitted of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.
Smithsonian spokeswoman Linda St. Thomas stated the suit is not appropriate for the museum's collection.
The donation stems from an agreement reached on Monday between Simpson, Fred Goldman and Simpson's former sports agent, Mike Gilbert in order to resolve legal issues regarding Simpson's clothing.
In the event the suit was turned down by the Smithsonian the agreement provided it would be offered to another organization. The name of that organization has not been disclosed.

What other organization would take that suit? I can't even imagine who and what they would do with it. I don't see it as a raffle or auction situation...just too far on the bad taste side of things for any organization to get involved with.

I think the intent of posting this article was to highlight the dilemma that some organizations face in accepting certain types of gifts. I applaud the Smithsonian for their decision, although I think they missed an opportunity to use the press release to talk about staying true to their mission, etc. It is certainly their right to issue a two-sentence press release, but I think it leaves some questions unanswered and allows people to make their own conclusions as to why they refused the donation.
Alternate location for Simpson's suit
No doubt the suit will be accepted by the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation, and HUNG alongside the blue dress that Monica Lewinsky couldn't bring herself to launder.
Truly a FITTING venue for both articles, n'est pas?
