A local arts organization, which has 501(c)(3) status, is contemplating offering a room and studio at no, or nominal, cost to an artist or artists on a rotating basis.  The artists would live in one of the organization's houses that are part of its "campus," and help promote the organizational's educational or artistic activities. We find numerous 501(c)(3) organizations with artist in residence programs, but no rulings or court cases dealing with this concept. Is there any way it could jeopardize the organization's tax-exempt status?  Assume the artists are not in any way related to the organization (not substantial contributors, officers or directors).
